Story in Anachron Done
Back in Steam City
In the beginning of the second month, Serena thought she was finally adapting to Ethela. Serena was in the music room with Urion’s father King Thanos, both of them watched as Prince Urion played the piano, his elegant fingers stroking the keyboard and filling the room with beautiful music. It was a pleasant peaceful afternoon. But in the middle of song, the doors to the music room slammed open and a maid rushed into the room and whispered urgently to King Thanos. Prince Urion noticed this intruder and abruptly stopped playing, one eyebrow raised in curiosity as both him and Serena watched the tense discussion between the maid and the king. After a few moments, the maid left the room and King Thanos stood up and turned to Serena, his eyes grave, “We must go to Steam city. A letter has arrived and the council will have a meeting.”
“Who is the letter from?” Serena asked. “Xazzar,” replied the king and Prince Urion rolled his eyes exasperatedly and said, “That damn dragon getting all this attention.” Serena ignored him, her mind reeling from shock. Dragons can send letters? This world really was strange.
A while later, they left the castle and to Serena’s astonishment she realized they were going to travel back to Steam city with a strange horse-like winged creature they called as griffons. As Prince Urion helped her up, he laughed at her as turned pale fearing being in the sky again.
“Don’t worry its nothing like being on a dragon,” he assured her. “I don’t believe you,” Serena told him as he placed himself in front her. He laughed and encouraged her to place her arms around his waist as he took hold of the reins. The king and one of the riders took the other griffons while the other servants carrying some bags settled on the third griffon. As the griffon’s wings flapped and took off, Serena squeezed her eyes shut and tightened her arms around Prince Urion who only laughed at her, finding her fear amusing. The journey was longer with griffons as compared to taking dragons Serena realized because it took four days to reach Steam city from Erodony. And Prince Urion turned out to be right because being on a hippogriff did feel a lot different as it felt like being more on a motorcycle than flying in the sky.
When they finally reached the ground, and Serena got off the griffons, her legs shook but she didn’t feel like puking which was a great relief. They entered the familiar castle in Steam city and were greeted by King Jakobe who smiled at them politely. As King Thanos and Prince Urion were ushered into a different room, Serena was invited for tea with the King – an invitation that made Serena feel a bit nervous. She wondered what he wanted to talk to her about.
“So how was your stay in Erodony?” King Jakobe asked, his golden eyes gazing into hers concerned. Serena’s stomach flipped nervously, but she smiled outwardly at him and answered, “It was quite nice. Prince Urion and King Thanos have been quite welcoming and generous with me.”
“I understand Prince Urion can be quite a handful, so surely he hadn’t overstepped in anyway?” King Jakobe asked her. Serena shook her head and laughed, “Well he can be quite a handful but don’t worry I can handle him.” King Jakobe nodded, his expression blank, but Serena felt like he didn’t believe her. A few moments passed and in the silence Serena felt a little bit uncomfortable. She glanced at the King and found him staring at her, his eyebrows furrowed.
“Is everything okay?” Serena asked him. He blinked for a few moments and stood up. Serena followed him and stood up as well.
“This is quite an interesting development,” he murmured, eyeing her curiously. He gestured for her to follow and they entered the room where a number of people had arrived for the meeting. He nodded and thanked her for joining him for tea and left her. She watched him as he went towards a beautiful white haired woman discussing something while throwing a few glances at her.
Well they were definitely talking about her. Serena tried not to feel offended and glanced around the room. She spotted some of the summoned women in the room mingling about. She was just about to go talk to one of them when the beautiful white haired woman approached her.
“Hello,” she greeted Serena warmly with a smile, her grey eyes filled with kindness. Serena immediately liked her. Serena smiled and greeted her back warmly. The woman introduced herself as Queen Lucia, ruler of Edora. “You have quite an interesting aura,” she mused gazing intensely at Serena. Serena couldn’t help but feel a little bit exasperated. What was it today with her and King Jakobe and all the weird staring at her? “I guess?” Serena answered with a shrug. Queen Lucia laughed at her, her grey eyes sparkling, “My, my, it appears King Jakobe was quite right to be confused. You my dear are born a gifted magician.”
Serena gaped at her. “I don’t… I don’t understand how that would be possible..?” Serena stammered confused. Queen Lucia replied lightly, “There are many things not quite possible and yet here we are today, you in Ethela saving us from an ancient dragon. Of course not that it couldn’t be explained but that well … that maybe there is an explanation despite the impossibility.”
“But I had been trying to use a spell that Prince Urion taught me and it wasn’t working. There is no way I could actually be a magician,” Serena explained to her. Queen Lucia asked Selena to describe to her the spell and when Serena did explain, Queen Lucia laughed and shook her head. “Prince Urion is quite the trickster,” she said. “Why,” Serena asked, “Did he teach me a fake spell?”
“It isn’t a fake spell.” Queen Lucia explained, “But he taught it incorrectly. He used the English name for a spell that was created using Latin. Correctly the word used should be Viregris.” Serena flushed, feeling foolish. She also felt like shaking Prince Urion. Of course he would lie to her about it and twist the spell. Prince Urion being compliant and teaching her was too easy. No wonder he kept laughing at her attempts.
Before Serena could look for Prince Urion and possibly damage his pretty face, an announcement was made that the council meeting was about to commence. She parted with Queen Lucia with a smile and headed for the seats gestured by one of the maids.
She would deal with him later. For now she had to focus on dragons and saving Ethela.
Council Meeting
The meeting started and King Jakobe explained the importance of the letter they had received. Xazzar was apparently done with the world and thought he should purify it by destroying everything. Which of course, Serena thought was absolutely crazy and dramatic. But then again crazy and dramatic was normal in this world.
But then the meeting took an interesting turn. Right after King Jakobe mentioned training would begin in the next month, one of the summoned asked why the dragon wanted to destroy everything. The atmosphere in the room became tense as some of the royals looked accusingly at Prince Urion and King Thanos.
Serena immediately remembered Demetrius’s dislike with Prince Urion and his side comment that in Erodony they liked to torture dragons. She thought it was just a joke. But what if it wasn’t? Were Prince Urion and his father responsible? Were they involved in actually torturing dragons? When she stayed in Erodony it did feel like a nice place but maybe it felt a little too perfect. Maybe there was something more to it and she wasn’t paying attention. Now that she thought about it, everyone at the castle did avoid talking about dragons….
She watched as Prince Urion smiled and arrogantly assured everyone in the meeting that Erodony had nothing to do with it. Some of the royals had perfectly blank expressions like King Jakobe who clearly wanted to avoid an argument, while others were glaring at the King Thanos and Prince Urion, clearly not believing a word they said. Serena couldn’t blame them. Half the time she didn’t know whether she could believe in anything Prince Urion said to her.
“Are we really capable of defeating the dragon?” Serena asked. The royals glanced at her and King Jakobe responded in a clear voice, “Of course they may be magnificent but so are you, I am sure of it.” Serena wished she could believe him, but for such a powerful statement he looked quite emotionless. Maybe he was trying to convince himself.
More discussion ensued, and Queen Lucia spoke up, confidently believing in the summoners having the ability to defeat the dragon. Serena couldn’t help but smile at the beautiful white haired woman who emitted elegance and beauty. She believed Serena was a magician, and if it were true maybe she could learn more powerful spells. Maybe it was possible after all to defeat the dragon.
“Is there another way to defeat them, not to kill?” asked one of the summoned and Serena considered this. Defeating the dragon obviously meant he had to die, but if there was an alternative…the dragon was intelligent enough to send letters maybe it was possible to dissuade him from destroying everything? Or putting him in a large prison like cage? Serena pondered the thought.
King Thanos huffed in annoyance that it was better to just kill all the dragons, much to the horror of some of the people attending the meeting. Prince Urion stepped in to diffuse the situation and said, “What my father meant was that it is difficult to tame a dragon without hurting them.” He said it with his usual charm, but there was a devious glint in his eye, as if the idea of torturing dragons was something amusing. Serena watched him with a sickening feeling in her stomach. She knew he hated dragons, but she didn’t know it would be to the point of wanting to torture them.
Serena heard one of the royalties clarify what Prince Urion meant and turned to the summoned woman who had paled in horror and said reassuringly, “Defeat does not always mean to kill.” King Thanos huffed again making Prince Urion bite on his lips. Serena watched him wondering if he trying to hide his laugh. She did not know what to think of him, but seeing him act like this made her wonder exactly what dark stuff was he hiding behind his charming mischievous face. She wondered if she would ever survive long enough to find out.
The meeting went on and one of her summoned companions clearly had enough of Ethela. She was demanding to be sent home and King Jakobe and Queen Lucia was trying to calm the situation promising to try to find a way. But then something strange occurred. To everyone’s shock, the summoned woman who was complaining about the situation suddenly started to fade and in a few moments disappeared completely.
There was a moment of silence as everyone tried to understand the situation. Did one of her summoned companions just disappear? How? Serena glanced around the room noticing how everyone looked just as confused as she was. Suddenly a bright familiar light filled the room, and when Selena blinked again, the light was gone and in its place was a dark skinned woman sitting in the chair where the summoned companion had disappeared. “What! Who, where am I?” The woman asked, her eyes darting in fear at the people around her.
Serena felt pity for her and for this situation. Clearly this day couldn’t get any stranger.
**
After the meeting, before any of the summoned ladies could leave, one of the royals stood up. He had hazel eyes and dark black hair and drawings on his forehead. He also had blue skin. Serena stared at him in amazement wondering what type of creature he was.
“Hello ladies, I am Prince Cyprus,” he greeted them warmly and said, “I would like to invite all of you to Echao for a Soleil Festival. I know these days can be quite stressful, so do come and take your mind off of it. On the 16th I will be having a birthday celebration by the water so come and bring your swimsuits. I will also be hosting a water sport competition with barbeque and campfire.” He smiled at all of them once again, handing each of the summoned ladies an invitation card.
Serena couldn’t help but sigh. These people really liked to throw celebrations. They just got a threatening letter about world cleansing by an ancient dragon and now there was another party to attend. If Serena was being honest, she didn’t mind these parties because they did distract her from the stress of having to become some sort of dragon fighter. But Serena was also looking forward to starting her training as soon as possible. She was excited to learn she was a magician and wanted to learn more. More spells meant becoming more powerful. And hopefully more power meant she could still find something about her dad and also a way home.
When Serena took her invitation and left the room she saw Prince Urion waiting for her by the stairs grinning with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. Serena remembered the spell he incorrectly taught her on purpose, feeling foolish and angry at him all over again. She scowled as she went towards him and said, “You are very lucky to be alive right now.”
He raised his eyebrow oblivious to her mood, his golden eyes shining and with a smile asked, “I do thank myself every day for that. But what have I done to you?” He sighed dramatically and gazed at her intently, dropping his head close towards her until they were only inches apart and whispered in a low seductive tone, “I can only think of all the things I haven’t done to you.”
Serena hated that her heart was beating fast and that butterflies were churning in her stomach. That when he looked at her as if she was the most beautiful thing in the world all she wanted to do was melt. But this guy was bad news. She was not going to allow herself to be affected in this way with this kind of guy. No matter how attractive and charming he was. This guy was a trickster; someone definitely not to be trusted or to get close to.
“The spell you taught me was wrong. It wasn’t glamour it was Viregris,” Serena informed him, one hand on her hip as she glared at him daring for him to argue and deny it.
“Ah, that spell,” Prince Urion grinned completely unrepentant and said, “I didn’t teach you anything wrong I was teaching you only half of it.”
“Why didn’t you teach me the other half?” she asked. “Because it would be boring!” he answered as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. Right, of course it was. She should have known better than to ask him something so obvious.
She glared at him once more deciding whether to continue arguing and then thought better of it. This guy did not care about how excited she was to learn her first spell and how disappointed and frustrated she felt when it didn’t work. She thought he was something like a friend, a very attractive friend but a friend nonetheless since she spent a whole month in his palace. But he clearly still saw her as some sort of new shiny toy.
She swallowed her hurt and turned away from him. She will not react to him she decided. Serena saw the summoned companions and headed towards them, ignoring Prince Urion who was calling for her.
Story in Echao
The Swimsuit Party
Serena was dressed in her blue bikini and enjoying the feel of the water beneath her. In this moment she felt calm and tranquil. Serena recalled how she traveled to this beautiful island. Travelling to Echao which was an island next to Erodony was absolutely spectacular- they used water dragons! Much better that travelling by the sky. Earlier everyone had gathered around the beach and she could feel the excitement of everyone around her as the Prince Cyprus instructed them to have as much fun as possible and that they were free to roam around the island. Serena had taken this opportunity to find an isolated area in the beach and swim in the water alone because she needed some time for her thoughts.
There was something fishy about the royals. They weren’t being absolutely clear with her and her fellow summoned companions about what was happening. She had been there for more than a month and still she knew very little about the dragon she was supposed to defeat. Furthermore, there was something suspicious about Erodony and the more she thought about it the more it bothered her. The place was great but too perfect. As for the Prince Urion and his father King Thanos, they were absolutely friendly with her, but she couldn’t forget the tense atmosphere in the meeting and the sickening way the king and prince Urion reacted when it came to dragons. She needed to investigate more. She needed to become stronger.
After a while of swimming, she reached the short to take her shoes and found Prince Urion waiting for her. He looked devastatingly handsome with his golden mischievous eyes and arrogant grin. He was dressed in his shorts which showed off a muscled body with toned abs. Serena swallowed and schooled her expression. He would not get any reaction from her.
“You look quite ravishing,” Prince Urion told her with a smile, gazing intensely at her outfit. Serena rolled her eyes and went past him to fetch her shoes. He followed her and said, “I have something for you.” He held out a card to her and Serena after a moment took it. As soon as it reached her hand it melted and turned into a blue flower. “I want you to be a special guest for a celebration that will happen in Erodony on the 26th,” He explained to her. Another party?
“Wow Erodony has a lot of celebrations. Didn’t I just attend two of them last month?” Serena marveled at him gazing at the flower.
“This one is more special than the others,” he said. “How so?” Serena asked turning her head to look at him. He smiled and answered, “It’s my birthday of course. I want you to be my guest of honor.” Serena blinked in surprise. She gazed at him thoughtfully wondering what his trick was this time. Was it possible that he saw her more than a shiny toy? Was this another one of his games? What did being a guest of honor signify? Friendship? But knowing Prince Urion it could be just another one of the empty titles he created for fun.
“I don’t mind coming as your guest of honor, but I have a condition,” Serena said, fluttering her eye lashes at him and giving him an innocent smile.
“I thought I’m the one who is supposed to be getting a gift since it my birthday,” Prince Urion chuckled but continued, his gaze intense, “But sure. What is the condition?”
Serena’s heart beat fast. She did not know what it was the Prince wanted from her or what he was hiding, but she knew he had some power and instead of letting him play her and treat her like a fool maybe she could take advantage of the situation and make it beneficial for her too.
“I want you to teach me another spell. Properly this time please,” she looked at him pleadingly. He rolled his eyes and said, “You are trying to turn me into a teacher. I thought you were going to ask for something much more interesting.”
Serena shrugged and said, “Well maybe it isn’t interesting to you but it is interesting to me. So what do you say?”
Prince Urion looked at her thoughtfully for a few moments and then to Serena’s absolute surprise he leaned in and kissed her. His lips were soft and warm and turned Serena’s mind absolutely blank in shock. The kiss was short, more like a peck really and then he drew back with a devious smile.
“That’s how you make deals with me,” he informed her with a wink and said, “But yes I will teach you one more spell. When you’re done here, come to my castle I will have an outfit ready for you.” Serena stared blankly at him as he chuckled and walked away towards the crowd at the beach.
The BBQ and Campfire Party
The next few days passed by in a blur in Echao and soon they were having BBQ and then a campfire. Prince Urion to Serena’s relief went back to his castle in Imbrosa to prepare for the upcoming birthday celebration. Serena loved campfires and couldn’t wait for it. When she finished eating the BBQ, she went back to the beach and saw a familiar dark haired figure standing near the shore. He was standing beside another man who had long white hair. It was an odd contrast light and dark. She approached them both and she realized to her delight it was Yoon. The pleasant stranger who was the only person at the moment Serena felt glad to meet in this world.
“Ah, a familiar face,” Serena greeted him with a smile. Yoon turned around in surprise and smiled at her warmly, “Serena, it’s great to see you here.” He gestured to the white haired man next to him and said, “This is my friend Fei.” Serena smiled at him in greeting and couldn’t help but be stunned by his beauty. This man was really pretty. He also had golden wings with see through pieces. Fei was looking at her curiously and after they talked for a bit he excused himself and went towards the BBQ. Yoon turned to her and then asked to take a walk in the beach which she agreed to.
“You seem to be the most adapted from all the summoned ladies,” Yoon told her with a smile and Serena shook her head ruefully and said, “I don’t think I’m the most adapted. I am every bit as scared and homesick as they are.” Serena explained, “It’s just that when I was back at home on Earth, I wasn’t happy when things were peaceful. I was always looking for something. Maybe it’s also because I had a part time investigator job. I spent a lot of times doing things I’m not supposed to be doing and wondering if I would ever make it out alive. So right now the fact that i’m in this kind of crazy high stake situation is something that is familiar with me.”
“What were you looking for?” Yoon asked her and Serena smiled sadly and said, “My father. When I was really young he disappeared. Just vanished. All his things were still at home – his books, his money and just everything. He was my best friend. He understood me in a way my mom couldn’t. So when it happened I just felt so alone you know? So I kept looking for him. When I came here I thought, I hoped… but anyway now I just need to survive long enough to go home somehow.”
“You are quite brave,” Yoon told her and continued, “It isn’t easy to be here away from everything you have ever known.” Serena blushed and said, “I don’t know if that’s brave or just desperate but thanks.”
Yoon asked her about her family and Serena talked about her mother who was kind and her younger brother who she fought with a lot but loved so much. Talking about them made her miss them more. She asked about Yoon and was surprised to learn that he was the one who taught Fei to be an elder. She was amazed when she heard him describe some of the exotic flowers that he took care of and was curious to learn about the dragon he had bonded with. When he asked her whether she managed to meet with Demetrius and ask about dragons she shook her head and said disappointingly, “That was the last time I saw him. He never came back to the palace so I don’t know where he is now.”
Yoon gazed at her, his dark eyes intense on hers and offered in a warm voice, “Well, it may not be much but I don’t mind telling you a little about dragons. I could show you the one I have bonded with. He is the most glorious friend I have.”
Serena smiled excitedly, feeling a bit nervous as she looked at him. There was a strange moment between them as Serena gazed into his eyes. She felt goose bumps on her skin and her heart was thundering in her chest.
Before she could say anything, someone was calling for them. With a jolt, Serena looked up at the sky and realized it had grown dark already and it was time for the campfire. Yoon smiled at her and together they made their way to the campfire.
**
There was a glorious campfire where people where all gathered around it holding drinks and laughing. She sat down among the circle and Yoon settled beside her. She accepted a warm cup of hot chocolate from one of the servers and watched excitedly as the people started gathering in groups to start playing some sort of water game with the dragons. Even though the water was dark at night, that was supposedly the thrill of the game. She laughed as she watched them argue among themselves as they partnered off.
She was about to talk to Yoon about it when she felt him plop his head on her should. She could hear him breathe softly and she knew he was sleeping. She smiled and as she stared into the fire in deep thought.
There were so many strange things happening in Ethela. She thought she had a good idea about the royalty especially Prince Urion and his father but clearly she didn’t because they were hiding something. But what? And would that change her relationship with them? Maybe right now she was just warmly regarded as an honored guest but would it change if she asked around about dragons? What if she found out something she shouldn’t have? One thing was for sure and it was that she couldn’t trust Prince Urion at all. He said one thing and did another. Even that short kiss was just some sort of joke to him.
But Ethela wasn’t so bad. She was actually enjoying some of her time here and was finding herself more excited at the thought of training. Serena thought about Yoon who sleeping peacefully, his head on her shoulder and she felt herself blush. Yoon so far was the only person who didn’t feel like someone who would lie to her. Everything they talked about today made her feel like he was the most genuine person in Ethela. She didn’t know much about him but she felt herself wanting to know more. She wondered if he was someone she could trust. She also wondered if she would ever survive long enough to discover Prince Urion’s secrets and if she would ever be able to make it home alive.
She gazed at the sky that was filled with so many pretty stars and thought, ‘Oh well, I guess I will just have to take it day by day and find out for myself.’
Story in Imbrosa
Prince Urion's Party
When Serena reached the castle in Imbrosa, she saw Prince Urion eagerly waiting for her. Serena’s heart jumped a little bit when he greeted her with his usual mischievous smile and ushered her towards one of the special guest rooms. When he opened the door, she saw a pretty blue corset and some sort of frilly material strewn across the bed.
Serena went towards the bed cautiously and picked up the corset.
“What is this exactly?” she asked Prince Urion, her eyebrow raised.
“This is your outfit for my birthday,” he said with a devious glint in his eye. “Okay,” she said patiently, “Where is the rest of it?” He pointed at the frilly material on the bed and Serena sighed. She put down the corset and picked up the frilly material. There was really not much material that would cover anything. Somehow this did not surprise Serena at all.
Prince Urion flicked his hand and two maids entered the room carrying glittering silver jewelry and some kind of black tights. “I look forward to seeing you tonight,” he said with a wink before he left the room.
Serena took a deep breath and let it out. Clearly she had no choice. She glanced at the blue corset and the silver jewelry and smiled at the maids. She insisted that she was okay dressing by herself until they left the room.
Serena picked up the corset again and thought out the plan that she had for the night. Tonight, while the prince was busy being the center of attention she would sneak out and check out Erodony. The night time she knew was when people usually carried out their nefarious plans. She was already somewhat familiar with the city because of her previous stay. It was a great plan but she didn’t think she was going to have to wear a corset while sneaking around. But never mind, Serena believed that all she needed to do was just find some time away from the Prince so she could uncover some of his secrets. It would be easy, right?
**
Hours later Serena groaned in the bathroom and glared at her reflection in the mirror. It was the night of the party and much to her absolute astonishment and frustration, Prince Urion decided now of all times to keep her by his side for the entire night. She tried to excuse herself more than three times, and each time she left the bathroom the Prince was there waiting for her with a smile. Serena didn’t understand what he was doing. Did he figure out she was suspicious of him? Did he want to play another game with her? What was it? What did he want? And worst of all, she spotted Yoon at the party and every time she wanted to go and talk to him Prince Urion would take her arm and lead her somewhere else.
The theme of the party was burlesque this time, so even though Serena had thought she was dressed a little too inappropriately, it turned out in the party she fitted right in. Serena refastened her feathery hair accessory and reapplied her lipstick. She glanced at her reflection one more time before leaving the bathroom. Serena decided to go for a plan B. If she couldn’t sneak out and investigate on her own she might as well interrogate the suspect.
She saw Prince Urion talking to someone, and when he saw her he winked at her. Serena went towards him and whispered, “I’m feeling a little dizzy from all the dancing lets go talk for a bit at the balcony.”
Prince Urion looked delighted and as he led her out towards a nearby balcony. When they stood by the balcony, Serena could hear the buzzing sound of the party inside until Prince Urion instructed the nearby guard to close the balcony doors. Now it was really just him and her at the balcony alone in complete silence.
“So,” he murmured in a low tone, coming close towards Serena, “What is it you would like to talk about? Or is it not talking you prefer? I could do that.” His golden eyes stared deep into hers and then he lifted her chin and inching his face closer to hers.
“Dragons,” Serena blurted out, nervous all of a sudden but desperate to focus somewhere else, anywhere else but his lips, “I want to talk about dragons.”
Prince Urion paused glancing at her in surprise. After a few moments of silence he straightened up and let go of her face turning to face the balcony view, his face hidden in the shadows. He groaned and muttered, “Why do you want to talk about dragons?”
Serena took a deep breath, relieved that the mood changed. She leaned forward towards the balcony and said, “Well you know I’m supposed to fight one right? Doesn’t Erodony have dragons?”
“Let’s talk about something else more interesting, like you giving me a birthday present,” he suggested. Serena rolled her eyes. Nice try.
“Why do you hate talking about dragons so much?” she asked him instead and he sighed in annoyance, “I don’t hate them. I just despise them. These creatures are so annoying and so loud and demanding. They think they are so powerful but they aren’t meant to be anything other than slaves.”
Serena bit back her shock at his brutal words. This guy was quite extreme when it came to dragons. “In the meeting, why did they say that you and your father could explain why Xazzar wanted to destroy this world?” Serena asked him.
“Does it matter?” he muttered clearly bored with the topic.
“Of course it matters!” Serena almost shouted back in frustration, “I am supposed to risk my life fighting this dragon. I need to know whatever I can about it.”
“Who cares about the stupid summoning,” he replied an edge in his tone, “Just leave it. You aren’t the only one anyway so you don’t have to do it. Just have fun and leave that annoying dragon business to someone else.”
Serena sighed and tried again to explain to Urion this time with a more calm and patient tone, “I am here because they believe I can help save them. I can’t just leave the summoning duties just so I can have fun while the entire world gets destroyed. I can’t. So please, just answer my question.”
After a few moments of silence, she could feel the tension sap out of Prince Urion. He leaned back and turned his face towards Serena, his usual smile plastered on his face, “I don’t know what they mean. You’ve seen Erodony it’s a perfect place. So really, I don’t know what they’re talking about. Now if you excuse me, I have some guests to attend to.” And with that, he winked at Serena, turned and left the balcony.
Serena stared after him filled with a weird feeling in the pit of the stomach. She didn’t like arguing with him, but still she needed to confirm her suspicion. She knew he was lying, she didn’t know how, but she knew it. There was something off about dragons here. Maybe it was an important clue to dealing with Xazzar. Alright she decided, now that she was finally alone it was time to go back to plan A.
She glanced down at the ground, measuring the distance between the balcony and the ground. It was unfortunately too high up; she wouldn’t be able to jump down without possibly twisting her ankle or breaking her neck. She moved to the edge of the balcony and saw a tree right below it. Aha! She could climb down and then make her way across the garden and then towards the city. First she would have to collect a bag that she had stashed in the garden earlier in the afternoon. This small bag contained some money and a change of clothes and shoes.
She took off her high heels and dropped them off the balcony. She eyed the two guards that were usually stationed at the gate of the garden. They were facing the opposite direction from her, and she hoped they wouldn’t turn back otherwise they would see her climbing the tree. Their patrol changed every three hours but since she was an honored guest of the Prince she wouldn’t be considered suspicious. Or at least she hoped. On one hand she felt terrified of what she might discover if she discovered anything. And on the other hand she felt excitement course through her. She knew she had to do this. Her gut was telling her there was something off about Erodony and she couldn’t just sit back and wait for someone to tell her what it was.
Serena took one deep breath before she turned and jumped to the tree below the balcony.
