"It's finally Spooky Season!" People all over the office were ecstatic. I sat there trying to concentrate while they talked about their costumes, parties, cocktails, and candy grabbing plans.
Realizing that I'd been quiet, the new guy said, "So, Emmy, what are you going to be doing?" Before I could answer, someone else said, "Shhh. She doesn't celebrate Halloween." I heard a faint whisper, "She'll be doing something boring, as usual. One year, she fed the ducks at the pond of some Bed & Breakfast in the country. That was all she did." Someone else in a more quiet voice said, "Yeah...and she had pictures of the ducks. Sad."
None of them knew how I really spent Halloween each year. None of them needed to know.
The invitations had been sent out. The RSVPs had come in. It was all planned out. Everything had to be perfect. The guests had no idea that our first Halloween Contest would be their last. One good thing about this time of year is that my favorite activities always go unnoticed until it is far too late. Loved ones are never concerned about not hearing from their 'Nista, at first, because she is somewhere partying. Perfect.
Upon arrival, each Fashionista was given a guide to the room they'd requested. The doorwoman would take care of her belongings. My planning was meticulous. The invitations were cute, but typical. I'd required RSVPs. They RSVP'd to their own murders. *wicked giggle*
